Topic: Scrum and Facilitating

Good evening.

So, as a Scrum Master, one of our jobs is to remain neutral if discussions should become heated and actually facilitate an outcome.  Even if we do not agree with it.

Apparently I have told the Emperor he has no clothes and have been banned from a group which I used to frequent often.  I am not alone.

The question then is for me now is... what makes an effective facilitator?

Re: Scrum and Facilitating

The Joint Application Design (JAD) community has some wonderful advice for facilitators.  A good URL is http://www.projectperfect.com.au/info_r … itator.php but if you go poking around on the web you'll find a lot of good material along similar lines.

The International Association for Facilitators (IAF) at http://iaf-world.org is clearly a good source of information as well, and anyone who is serious about facilitation should consider the certification that they offer.  I've been looking into it for a long time, but have never been able to carve out the time.

As far as Emporers go, it's really easy to talk about being agile but in the end actions speak louder than words.

Hmmm ... grrrh ... burble ... GLOOOP!

Oops sorry, that's my tummy rumbling -- something doesn't feel quite right with the remain neutral part of the Scrum Master role. I'm not ready to say I disagree - just thinking that's the part that I would modify.

Let me sleep on it ... cu on Thursday with more thoughts.
